The answer above was for a dual spool. My Ryobi has two trimmer lines but only one spool. This is how it is reloaded. 1. Remove center "Bump" button by unscrewing it counter clockwise. You may need to use pliers with a wide grip, such as channel lock pliers, to unloosen the center button. 2. You can now remove the spool which was held in place by the center button. Be careful as there is a spring on the backside of the spool. 3. Look for two things on the spool. One is two small holes on the outside flange (nearest the Bump button) that are toward the center of the spool. The second thing to look for are tabs on the inside flange, especially two tabs opposite each other that have a slot cut into them. 4. Unroll about 12 feet of 0.080" trimmer line that you can purchase at your local hardware. 5. Thread one end of the 12 foot length into one of the two holes you found in step #3 above. Thread the other end in the second hole. Pull both ends through so that each portion is equal in length. 6.Holding both ends, wrap the two ends around the spool in the direction of the arrow on the spool leaving about 8 inches of line unwrapped. 7. place one of the two lines in one of the two tabs with a slot (see step #3 above) and the other line in the opposite slot. 8. Thread the two lines through the two holes in the housing and begin to place the spool in the housing with the two tabs containing the lines coinciding with the two holes in the housing. 9. Pull the two lines loose from the slots in the tabs. 10. Screw the Bump button back on and you are through.

I don't have a spool in front of me so I am working from memory. First of all start with the spool with it's base towards you, that's the part that is closest to the ground on the assembled trimmer.Start with the spool that is closest to you, you will see a hole about the same diameter as the line you are replacing, push the end of the line through the hole and push it back through the hole next to it, this locks the line in place. With the base towards you wind the line on the spool in an anti-clockwise direction.wind on as neatly as possible until the spool is almost full, don't overfill, and lock the line in the slot on the edge of the spool leaving about 6 inches snip off the rest of the line. It's a good idea to place a bit of sticky tape over the slot to prevent the line coming loose whilst you rewind the other spool.
The proceedure is the same as for the other reel with the end of the line crossing the centre divider where the slot is provided, crossing the line on the other reel and locking into the slot 180 degrees to the slot you used for the first reel you rewound. Snip off leaving about the same excess as the first reel. Get you snipper and your hands in position to replace the reel in the trimmer. Remove the sticky tape and hold both lines in place with your fingers, with you other hand push the two lines through the holes where the lines feed out, carefully place the spool back on the shaft gently pulling the excess line through as you go until the spool is fully located, screw the bump knob on loosely and gently pull both lines to take up any slack, tighten the bump knob. You can check if everything is OK by pushing on the bump knob whist pulling on one of the lines, it should release a short length of line. This whole proceedure is best done with an empty fuel tank. Hope this makes sense to you, it's got me baffled !!!
