My ghd eclipse start3d doing this. Called ghd and they ate sending me a new one. She told me the eclipse doesnt have shiver mode and that it can be caused by leaving the power cord plugged in the wall even if its switched off.

Haha yep my black GHD started beeping continuously this morning and i thought they were broken :/ i was shattered but i had had them for nearly 3 years... tonight i googled and found this page. Read this thread and was like oh maybe the plates were too cold? warmed the plates up with my hands and BAM GHD IS ALIVE AND WORKING AGAIN :] thank you who ever suggested that! (19th of June 2013)

My husband retrieved a pair that someone was throwing away as they were bleeping, that was a year ago and today after reading this I have been able to use them, one word AMAZING!!!!!

Hi guys, this is a thermistor problem. The thermistor is located on the non switch arm of the ghd on top of the heater element.
A thermistor measures the heat of the heater elements and controls the auto switch off on mk4's or later.
If the temp is below 5c then the thermistor won't allow the ghd's to switch on to protect the heating element and you will get a continous beep.
If the plates are above 5c and your still getting a continous beep then the thermistor is damaged or broken and will need replacing.
If the thermistor comes away from the heating element then the plates will over heat and cause the thermal fuse to trip.
Hope this helps anyone who is having any problems.

Mine were in my car all day today while
I was at work, I went to use them this evening and started panicing! I googled it and then this site came up saying to warm with hands, I did that and it worked brilliantly, mine are limited edition pink originals from a hair salon and iv only had them since sept, so keep them as warm as possible and warm them with your hands it works great :)
Melissajane January 2011 |
Thank you so much everyone!
I thought were broken with the constant bleeping and went around looking rough for days.
I heating the plates up with the hair dryer and it worked!!
Very useful tip to know for the future.
Sammyantha January 2011 |
The constant beeping sound when ghd is switched on indicates that the appliance is too cold to heat up, no need to worry if it makes this noise jus let the ghd heat up to room temperature and it's perfect again, u can use a hair dryer or radiator which ever works for u, but no need to panic the ghd is just too cold to work!!
Caoimhe December 2010 |
Yay! totally worked! thank you so so much!!
Dr Jet December 2010 |
my ghd's have been double bleeping when i switch them on a few times this week (and my heatings been out) then this morning they bleeped constantly and i completly freaked out, i tried umpluging them etc and same thing happened then i was running my hands around them trying to see if there was a crack or something but there wasnt so tried switching them on again and they worked!!! never been soo relieved :) xx

My house is freezing and my GHD wouldnt stop beeping. Turned it off warmed the plates up with my hands and its make to working order!!!!! So beeping just must mean that the plates are too cold to heat up maybe

HI EVERYONE, IF YOUR STRAIGHTNERS ARE NOT HEATING UP ITS YOUR THERMAL FUSE WHICH IS AT FAULT, EITHER PURCHASE A REPLACEMENT OFF EBAY FOR A COUPLE OF QUID OR SOLDER A THIN PIECE OF WIRE TO THE CONNECTORS OR SEND THEM TO GHD.
ASH January 2010 |
i tryed the hairdryer thing + its still not working i really dunno what to do! "/
deanna e January 2010 |
5 days into the new year and woke up with a curly fringe an ghds stuck on beepin mode! PANIC!!!! As i was clutchin my hot water bottle due to the 6 inches of snow outside. Decided to slip the bottle between the plates. Crazy yes i know, but a girl will go to any lengths for her GHDs! Lo an behold it worked! Lucky me!!!!!
Cherie January 2010 |
Thank you so much!! One week before Christmas and thought i was doomed! i have really short naturally curly hair so was ready to go out and fork out on a new pair! The hairdryer worked a treat!! Its snowing outside so must be the cause of the 'shiver' x x
Rachel, Liverpool UK December 2009 |
The hairdryer thing definitely works. My room right now has no heating, so I guess my GHDs were just too cold to heat up. Poor things. :(
Kiki December 2009 |
u Don't even need a hairdryer. Just unplug them...warm the plates with your hands for about a minute and then you r good to go
Lisa December 2009 |
Brilliant - handy trick to have. I thought my new mini GHD's (definitely genuine) had packed up but thanks to this forum I'm all sleek and shiny smooth again. Ta, & merry xmas from New Zealand.
Jan December 2009 |
After heating up the plates with a hairdryer for about 30 seconds and using it for some time the straightner turned itself off (the red light turned off) and is now still not working wen turned on, neither light comes on or heating up...
Any ideas?? its only 3 weeks old...
C December 2009 |
Thanks to all re the hair dryer - it really worked! Turned the air conditioner off and ran the hair dryer on it for about 1 min and it fired up beautifully.
think pink
Ruth November 2009 |
i pressed the plates together n it stopped bleeping and heated up :)
minky October 2009 |
Tried the hair dryer thing and they worked after about a min :)... it does work !!! :D
Linda July 2009 |
Use a hair dryer to warm them up gently dont blast them! it takes about a minute, they need to reach a certain temperature before the alarm stops.
Neil June 2009 |
I left it on bleeping non-stop for bout 6 minutes, then it started to heat up by it self, mind you, it might be to do with the room temperature, it only seems to happen on really cold days, like frosty days.
carolz June 2009 |
I've just had this problem with them bleeping continously - hadn't heard of the 'shiver' mode before but they are working fine now that I am using them in a warm room...crazy!
Jo February 2009 |
hey i had the same problem. found out that because my heating in my house had gone, that they were just too cold. i took them over to my mums place (the heating there was fully in tact) and they were fine. got my heating fixed and havnt had ant problems since. so the over riding view seems to be that if they are cold then the will send warning beeps and you have to turn them off and get them warmed up.!! hope this was help to you guys!!
mrs pattinson January 2009 |
Warmed up with hair dyer for a about a min, kept dyer on the plates and head while switching on.
Damien Harris December 2008 |
im having the same problem. it only heats up if i squeeze the plates together really hard, but even then it starts to silent beep again. i bought mine off of ebay.
who knows how to fix this?!?
Courtney November 2008 |
I have the same problem with my ghds. I contacted an electrician and he said the must the thermistor. However, i dont know how to fix it. Any ideas?
Al Kahn July 2008 |
Mine is doing this constant beeping, too. I bought it on ebay from exclusivelifestylez. Warming it with a blow dryer did not help.
Tammera May 2008 |
yes it is,Had same prob.
solved by! warming the ghds up with hair dryer 1st,
seems to be in shiver mode.
let us know how you got on?
Darren Brandon May 2008 |
If you don't mind me asking
what was the sellers name on ebay?
hannah February 2008 |
hi yes i bought mine of ebay for christmas for my daughter they worked for 4 weeks and then stopped working tried ghd
they are fakes so be very careful they looked really good
if you are going to buy off ebay asked them for the number on the lead then phone ghd and they will tell you there if they are ok
hope this helps
ps i bought mine for £120 i could of got the real ones for extra £30
julie evans February 2008 |
my ghd's did the same and when we sent them back they would not give us a new pair or our money back because the nonstop bleeping meens its stuck on shiver mode and this was apparently my fault because the plates had hair styling products on them, although the products were recomended for the ghd's.
and also they were burnt out for any chance did you buy your ghds off ebay?
because i belive there is someone on ebay selling faulty ghds.
