- was working fine for 3 years then after giving it a good clean the toast wouldn't stay down. So, I turned upside down and shook it, still nothing. then i turned upside down and turned clockwise so dial mechanism was facing the floor and shook it, then it worked again. carefully slid back into position - wont be cleaning it for a while. haha

I was about to retire my toaster until I saw the advice that has been very effective for me too and has saved me an expenditure on another toaster. Thank you very much.

Guys, you would not believe it! At the service center, I was asked to pay 60 Euro for the repair! I told them to bugger off, took back the toaster and came home, found this suggestion and....
IT WORKS AGAIN!!!
BRILLIANT!!!! Thanks for a great advice!

yes ,what this chap said is 100% correct my toaster is now staying down, just clean element and turn upside down and give damn good shake i also turned the side dial at the same time backwards and forwards as well, just in case any crumbs were in the mechanism.

I had the same problem. The simple solution is to remove the bread crumbs. Pull out the crumb shelf and also give it a shake upside down. If there is a crumb on the element, the thermostat will cut out. Knowing this, my toaster worked fine for many years. It now packed up again, but this time the element doesn't light up. When I looked on my PC for a Siemens repair center, I found your question. Hope my tip will help you.
