banging the box = shock = intermittent joint on a PCB or sticky relay...
I think your problem is degraded capacitors on the fan control PCB... the small PCB on the left hand side.
Replace them... use two 1uf 400V ( or 275V) metalised polyester.
To proove it, you should have 240VAC across the fan at startup, then going to about 150VAC when the relay switches to low speed for the low pressure burn.
Any good electrical/TV repair shop can replace them for you.

Hi John,
We had the same problem. We had to call an engineer out and he told us to bang the case at the top righthand corner two or three times and relight the boiler. I know it might sound stupid but it actually works and is well known amongst engineers.
