According to the schematic for your Kenmore, you should have the telescoping wand. They are prone to electrical failure with the ribbon cable inside. Test for voltage at the bottom of the wand. Should be around 115 volts. If low voltage, do voltage test at the handle connector. If the voltage is correct there, we know the wand has a problem. Usually, when I get one of these Kenmores in for repair, I replace the wand with the standard 2 piece wands from the older models. Together, they cost only about half of what a new telecoping wand costs.
