if its defo sooting up, u need to get whoever serviced it back and pronto. very dangerous for an open flued appliance. In fact i wouldnt even use an open flued appliance without a carbon monoxide alarm - audible one, not worthless ones that change colour. if its sooting its usually a problem with ventilation, the flue, gas pressure. the flame should be blue when burning, not yellow. hope this helps
