how does the metal strip fit in the solution below.?
Pretty tricky. Take all the screws out. When you can split the handle apart you'll see that the cable is just connected with chocolate block. At this point the rear handle switch will fall out, together with its locating spring! To get it together, you are committed to opening the whole thing up. The front handle stops it from coming apart. This is in several pieces, and you'll need to break off the outer shell from an inner strip. Once you have done this, the body will come away. Then connect the new cable. The two handle/switches work together to operate a microswitch which is at the top of a vertically aligned rod. They have to locate under a little metal strip that slides rather loosely on the rod. When you can see how it works, locate the rear handle again, and locate the return spring inside the rear handle. You should then be able to put the shell back on. Best of luck!
