thanks hi spec for your advice, from this checked the pressure and its ok, apparently live in soft water area so doesnt appear to be limescale. Just turned the shower on after having not for 12 hrs and it bursted out shots of water at normal temperature for a couple of seconds b4 trickling off again. think it may be something else?!

it can be a mains pressure problem, being on the top floor . need to check your mains pressure.
if thats ok it could be limescale blocking your gauze filter in the mains pipe to the shower.
