Hey Matt,I have the same problem on my McCulloch MACCAT1635 chainsaw,I cut the stripped stud off and was going to drill out the old one,but i went to deep and punchured the fuel tank by being to aggressive. My stud was stripped where the nut goes and the studs go in from behind the fuel tank into a recess in the casting..I'm having problems getting the tank out and am also searching for instructions on how to remove the tank so i can replace both studs and repair the tank..Good Luck,Howard

If the studs are screwed into the casing you will probably have damaged threads in the casting.
Only one fix here, drill out holes to correct size to accept a helicoil which has original thread size.Fit helicoil and screw in new studs fixing them with some very strong locking compound. You will need to get your local machine shop to do this for you if you don't know what I am talking about.
Otherwise scrap the saw it is simply too dangerous to use in its present state

are you talking about the two bar studs that hold the bar on. if so you knock them in and take them out from the oil tank.

Can't you just unscrew the studs that the nuts go onto (anti-clockwise) & re-tap the thread with the appropriate size? rob..
