Bobbin will not pick up thread?

I bought a singer confidence 7463 six months ago it was working perfect but it jammed in a piece of lining and now the needle seems to scrape the bottom of the bobbin case and will not pick up the bobbin thread. It almost seems that the needle is too long but this is not the problem as I have been sewing with the same needle and all was going fine.
